Kelly has already signed a pre-contract with Millwall and is expected to join them on January 1, 2025.

At the time, Millwall would have had to pay Celtic a cross-border development compensation of around £275,000 for the Celtic Academy graduate, who had turned down a contract offer from the Scottish champions to follow Rocco Vata in further developing his career in the second tier of the English pyramid.

However, following the conclusion of negotiations, a transfer fee was agreed and Kelly will undergo a medical tomorrow before the deal goes through.

Kelly had been linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen, while Tottenham Hotspur, coached by former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou, were also said to be interested. The Spurs manager will keep an eye on Kelly’s progress at Millwall.

Both Rocco Vata and Daniel Kelly are Celtic fans and have been at Celtic for many years. The loss of both to English Second Division clubs Watford and Millwall means that the causes of these developments need to be examined and lessons learned. Perhaps it is a consequence of the clear path to the first team with the alternative of playing in the Lowland League?

Help raise funds for the Celtic Youth Academy by entering the weekly Celtic Pools lottery and you could win up to £25,000. The lottery costs £1 per week.
