Orange County introduces “Ready Set Orange”The program offers pre-designed floor plans for ADUs and single-family homes

Orange County, Florida – As part of its ongoing efforts to improve housing affordability through the Housing for All initiative, Orange County has introduced Ready Set Orange, a new program designed to encourage the construction of Starter Homes, or small single-family homes, and Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs).

“The goal of this program is to provide residents with more housing options by removing barriers,” said Olan Hill, deputy director of the county’s planning department. “Our current housing market is heavily weighted toward single-family homes and multi-family housing, while supply in between is very low.”

Ready Set Orange customers can choose from eight pre-designed floor plan models and receive step-by-step instructions on how to enroll in the program and obtain final building permits, potentially saving costs and time associated with the permitting process.

An ADU is a smaller, independent housing unit located on the same lot as a detached single-family home. Orange County began allowing ADUs on residentially zoned lots in 2019. ADUs provide housing for family members of homeowners or can be rented by tenants for periods of more than 180 days.

Four of the available Ready Set Orange floor plans are for ADUs ranging in size from 531 to 708 square feet. The other four floor plans are for single-family homes ranging in size from 1,150 to 1,483 square feet.
