NEWARK โ A 3-year-old boy is on the road to recovery after shooting himself with a gun last week.
The toddler was taken to University Hospital on Thursday afternoon. According to Newark police, his condition was still critical that evening.
Fortunately, the boy seems to be recovering.

His condition is now stable, Newark spokeswoman Catherine Adams said late Monday morning.
According to Fritz Fragรฉ, director of Newark Public Safety, investigators found a firearm in the Wainwright Street home where the toddler was injured. It appeared the shooting was accidental and self-inflicted.
New Jersey police stations offer free gun locks
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there were 1,262 unintentional firearm deaths among youth in the United States between 2003 and 2021.
Project ChildSafe, a statewide education program launched in 1999, partners with local police departments to offer free gun security packages, including gun locks. According to its website, the program works with about 140 agencies in New Jersey.
Although Newark is not listed as a partner on the program’s website, nearby partners include the Elizabeth and Kearny police departments.
