Philadelphia Eagles 14, New England Patriots 13

All eyes were once again on New England Patriots first-round quarterback Drake Maye (although Tanner McKee of the Philadelphia Eagles may have stolen the show).

Maye had a solid but quiet performance in Week 1, but gave viewers something more to talk about in this game – a 14-13 loss to the Eagles. The North Carolina product made a great throw – a deep throw to fellow rookie Javon Baker that was uncompleted – and found the end zone with his legs.

For the Eagles, cornerback Quinyon Mitchell looked solid for the second week in a row and the linebacker corps looks ready to compete in the regular season. And of course, McKee has proven his chances to take the QB2 role ahead of Kenny Pickett.

Baltimore Ravens 13, Atlanta Falcons 12

The Baltimore Ravens and Atlanta Falcons rested their key players for the second game in a row, and we were treated to a true preseason affair.

This Week 2 preseason game featured long passes, with Josh Johnson, Emory Jones, Taylor Heinicke and John Paddock each completing a 20-yard throw (first-round quarterback Michael Penix Jr. did not play).

Points were still hard to come by, with the Ravens winning the game 13-12 after the Falcons failed to score a game-winning two-point conversion with less than 40 seconds left.

Houston Texans 28, New York Giants 10

The Houston Texans remained undefeated in this year’s preseason, defeating the New York Giants 28-10 on Saturday at NRG Stadium.

Viewers got a glimpse of the Texans’ talented receivers on Saturday, as Stefon Diggs, Tank Dell and Nico Collins each caught a pass in their limited playing time. Collins’ 24-yard pass was the most impressive of all, but all three will likely have more than their fair share of moments throughout the regular season.

Chicago Bears 27, Cincinnati Bengals 3

An uneventful first half for Caleb Williams quickly turned into something else entirely on the freshman’s final drive of the second quarter. He found fellow freshman Rome Odunze on the run play for a 45-yard gain, then made a spectacular play that nearly found Odunze in the end zone, all before capping the drive with a Madden-esque touchdown scramble.

“Elite” doesn’t do this ride justice, as Williams had two great shots in the series.

The Bears relied on that performance, along with a strong defense and Tyson Bagent, to roll over the Bengals 27-3 in Week 2 of the 2024 NFL preseason.

Minnesota Vikings 27, Cleveland Browns 12

The Minnesota Vikings’ undefeated preseason streak continued on Saturday as they defeated the Cleveland Browns 27-12 at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

With JJ McCarthy out for the year and Sam Darnold not playing, Vikings QB Nick Mullens started Saturday and performed admirably, completing 11 of 21 passes for 135 yards and scoring a touchdown. Mullens made one key throw and one turnover while averaging 9.4 yards of depth of target.

Detroit Lions 24, Kansas City Chiefs 23

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs’ starting lineup played two series, both of which ended in field goals, and demonstrated what should be a high-caliber offense in the regular season and the playoffs – and with a behind-the-back pass to boot.

Rookie wideout Xavier Worthy was particularly active, catching a touchdown pass from Carson Wentz and finishing the game with 62 receiving yards on three catches and 11 rushing yards on one carry.

Nate Sudfeld started at quarterback for the Detroit Lions, who won 24-23, and recorded 196 passing yards and a touchdown of his own. Lions rookie running back Sione Vaki also looked like a weapon in the passing game.

New York Jets 15, Carolina Panthers 12

No Bryce Young and no Aaron Rodgers. Let the field goal fest begin.

The Carolina Panthers and New York Jets combined for seven field goals before rookie running back Dillon Johnson helped Carolina score a garbage-time touchdown on the game’s final play, capping the Jets’ 15-12 victory.

Indianapolis Colts 21, Arizona Cardinals 13

None of the Indianapolis Colts’ regular players played in Saturday’s preseason game, but they still beat the Arizona Cardinals 21-13 at home in Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Colts enter their final preseason game with a 1-1 record, while the Cardinals are currently 0-2.

Tennessee Titans 16, Seattle Seahawks 15

Sam Howell looked solid as the Seattle Seahawks’ starting signal caller in this game, as did Malik Willis of the Tennessee Titans. Both had an adjusted success rate of 75.0% or better and made at least one key throw without a turnover.

Mason Rudolph led the game-winning attack for the Titans, who won the preseason week 2 game by a score of 16-15.

The star quarterback, who had just received a contract extension worth $212.4 million, completed all five of his passes for 51 yards in the first quarter before leaving the game.

Buffalo Bills 9, Pittsburgh Steelers 3

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was scheduled to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers but was not used, leaving Mitch Trubisky to face Russell Wilson.

Neither playmaker was able to make an impact, and they combined for three points in about 28 minutes of play. The biggest impact came from Bills edge rusher Greg Rousseau, who finished with three sacks and four total quarterback pressures in just seven pass-rushing snaps.

When the clock reached zero, the Bills were winning 9-3 against the Steelers.

Jacksonville Jaguars 20, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 7

Mac Jones threw for 210 yards and two scores – and moved one step closer to Jacksonville’s job as a backup – as the Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20-7 in Week 2 of the 2024 NFL preseason.

As a backup to Trevor Lawrence, Jones completed 16 of his 23 passes and scored touchdowns with Parker Washington and Brevin Easton. He also ran six times for 14 yards, forced two missed tackles and picked up a first down.

Dallas Cowboys 27, Las Vegas Raiders 12

While we should be focusing on the Las Vegas Raiders’ battle for starting quarterback Gardner Minshew against Aidan O’Connell, let’s first acknowledge that Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey made a wide-open, 59-yard field goal to end the first half.

Back to our regular schedule, a turnover-worthy play — which really should have been a pick-six — will send Minshew’s overall PFF grade plummeting after a disappointing performance overall. O’Connell seems closer to securing the starting spot, but he also made two turnover-worthy plays — one of which was a legit pick-six.

Dallas won the game of the second week of preparation with 27:12.

Denver Broncos 27, Green Bay Packers 2

A week after scoring 34 points in their preseason opener, the Denver Broncos returned home and scored 27 points against the Green Bay Packers in Week 2 of the 2024 NFL preseason.

This game belonged to Denver from the start, as the Packers were outnumbered from the first snap and never posed a real threat. Their only points came on a second-half safety, the result of a well-executed play by edge defender Zach Morton, who beat guard Will Sherman with a twist at the goal line.

Notably, this is only the second time in NFL history that a game has ended with this result; the last incident occurred in November 1989.

Rookie quarterback Bo Nix impressed for the second week in a row, looking confident and dominating the Broncos’ offense. Nix completed 8 of 9 passes for 80 yards and a touchdown and added 12 yards on three rushing attempts, cementing his chances of being named the Week 1 starter.

Followed Brock PurdyAfter the bumpy start, the Niners left the offense Joshua Dobbs And Brandon Allenboth vying for the backup quarterback position. Dobbs proved his claim to the job in impressive fashion by leading a touchdown drive late in the first half that culminated in an 11-yard run and a beautifully placed 38-yard pass to WR Jacob Cowing, which he then followed up with a 1-yard touchdown run.
