Is New Jersey a good state for driving?

There are many things we love about New Jersey, but driving probably isn’t one of them. According to a study, driving in New Jersey isn’t as bad as you think.

Along with taxes, tolls and traffic congestion, one of the necessary evils here in the Garden State is the endless number of obstacles that prevent us from getting from where we are to where we need to be.

Driving in New Jersey

We just want to go to work, take the kids to school and activities, and come home without any added stress. But the problem here in New Jersey is that that never, ever happens.

So when we hear that the Garden State has been ranked as the best places to drive compared to the other states in the US, we are not quite so optimistic about our positive results, but life is full of surprises.

The study, conducted by WalletHub, includes commuting costs, safety considerations and vehicle maintenance as a barometer, and the results might surprise you.

New Jersey is a surprisingly good place to drive

According to the study, New Jersey won’t even be among the top 10 states with the worst driving laws in the U.S. in 2023, which is quite a victory for us.

We’re coming in as the 11th worst state in the nation to drive in. It’s typical New Jersey that we think that’s good news. The worrying thing is that many states have it worse than ours.

Here’s even better news for New Jersey drivers. The category our state scored highest in is safety. In fact, the Garden State is the third safest, according to this study.

That’s certainly not as bad as it could have been, and that safety statistic is good news for anyone traveling in the Garden State. I’m not greedy, but maybe next year we can get out of the bottom 20.
