Fred Sirieix reveals why doctors were “worried” about him during I’m A Celeb

Fred Sirieix caused concern among doctors when he appeared on “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!”

The 52-year-old TV star, best known for his appearances on Channel 4 reality show First Dates, took part in the 2023 edition of ITV1’s reality jungle survival show and revealed that he was such a keen athlete that paramedics in the jungle were “concerned” he was losing too much weight.

He told the Sunday Express Sunday magazine: “I have been playing sport since I was a child and I exercise every day. I can’t go a day without doing some kind of physical activity, I like to sweat and I enjoy it.”

“It also puts me in a positive mood. In the jungle, I kept to my routine of at least 20 minutes of exercise. There is a doctor on site and at one point he said to me, ‘Fred, you need to slow down. You are not eating enough to keep this up and we are worried.’

“But I assured him that I was fine. And when I came for a check-up after leaving the jungle, I had lost just over 5 kg, which was less than they expected. I kept my strength up and my muscles active.”

Fred, whose daughter is Olympic diving medallist Andrea Spendolini, was then asked if he would sign up for another reality show. He admitted that while the series hosted by Ant and Dec is his “ultimate” goal, he would “never say never” to doing anything else in the future.

He said: “‘I’m a Celeb’ is the ultimate, you are put under extreme pressure, like having to eat animal anus and share a camp with strangers. But my motto is ‘never say never’. I like a challenge.”
