19 August – Even though Stephen Chow apparently does not want to respond to Wong Jing’s recent allegations against him, that does not mean that he has not rejected the filmmaker in question.
As reported on Mingpao, netizens recently dug up a past interview in which Stephen actually responded to questions about Wong Jing’s past criticism of him.
In the said interview with a mainland media outlet, Stephen calmly said: “I didn’t know that director Wong Jing knew me so well. Actually, I don’t think he knows me that well.”
He added: “Money is important, but doing things well is the most important thing of all. Money is just a bonus.”
Wong Jing recently made headlines for attacking Stephen’s character again on his YouTube show “Wong Jing Laughs at the Martial Arts World.” He claimed that the comedy writer became a “bully” on the set of “Shaolin Soccer” and that Stephen was treating his investors unfairly by refusing to change the title of his film, which led to the film being banned in mainland China for using the copyrighted title “Shaolin.”
He also reported on the dispute between Stephen and Sammo Hung, who was responsible for the choreography of the martial arts moves in the film “Kung Fu Hustle”.
