Blake Lively uses transgender slurs in an old interview

Lively’s 2012 interview resurfaced online on Sunday and quickly went viral because she made a comment about her future children while insulting the transgender community. One user on X posted a picture of an old interview, saying, “I hope to have some girls one day. If not girls, then they better be tr*****s. Because I have some amazing shoes and bags and stories that need to be honored.”

The term she used was considered defamatory by some members of the community, according to GLAAD. The post was captioned by the user, “Sometimes I’m quietly going about my day and then I remember the time Blake Lively said this to a journalist,” as reported by Page Six.

She also used the term in another interview with Allure in 2009 when she discussed her insecurities on the set of Gossip Girl. She said, “I feel like a s*** a lot of the time. I don’t know, I’m… tall? They put me in six-inch heels and I tower over every man.” She continued, “I have this long hair and a lot of clothes and makeup. I just feel really tall a lot of the time and I’m surrounded by a lot of short people. Sometimes I feel like a man.”

Internet users criticize Blake Lively

When the clip from Lively’s interview went viral, internet users attacked the actor for using transgender slurs. One user on X wrote, “You just blew up the whole smear campaign with that,” while another user wrote, “Not Lady Deadpool…” Another user wrote, “She’s right, but why would she use the T slur?”

Others supported the Gossip Girl actor. One user wrote, “That was a different time, they used that word all the time on SATC, even in scenes with actual trans people,” while another user wrote, “When she said that word there was nothing wrong with it at all. Today people are oversensitive. RuPaul even had a song with that word in the title.” One user wrote, “Actually I’m not mad about that at all. The word was used a lot back then. If it was said today it would be problematic, but there’s nothing wrong with wanting a trans child.”
