The Rockingham County Fair comes to an end

The Rockingham County Fair comes to an end

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) – The Rockingham County Fair is over, but plans are already underway for next year’s event.

“This week has been fantastic. We’ve had almost perfect weather. I don’t think we could have asked for better days,” said exhibition director Rebecca Holloway.

After a great week, workers began dismantling all the rides on Sunday morning, Holloway said. She said it was one of the best crowds she’s ever seen, with more than 86,000 visitors.

“The attendance was incredible; all of our on-ground activities, our grandstand activities and our livestock shows were well attended. Our attendance at the fair competitions was outstanding. All in all, it was a great week,” Holloway said.

Holloway said it was a good feeling to wake up on Sunday morning after the mass ended and know that everything was successful.

“Today was very relaxing to sleep in, walk around the fairgrounds and say, ‘Oh, it went well. It really went well; all the work and all the volunteers did such a great job,’ Holloway said. “Now that it’s over, it’s like, ‘oh, you plan all these things and then it’s over.'”

Holloway and the rest of the staff will be able to quickly begin planning for next year after a well-deserved rest this week.

“It’s time to prepare for next year. We’ll start having those meetings soon. We know we’ll start with a meeting where we’ll review what happened this year and then immediately start planning for next year,” Holloway said.

After six years of planning this event, Holloway said she couldn’t imagine doing anything else and looks forward to being a part of the fair for many years to come.
