Mark Kelly gives Ukraine green light to attack Russian territory

Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) says he has no problem allowing the Ukrainians to attack Russia on Russian soil with weapons that the US has supplied to the embattled country.

Recently, Ukrainian forces captured and occupied Russian territory in the Kursk region. This is the first time since World War II that a foreign army has invaded Russian soil.

During an interview on Face the nationanchor Margaret Brennan asked the Arizona congressman whether he agreed with Ukrainian forces using weapons given to them by the U.S. government against Russia on their own soil.

Kelly replied: Vladimir Putin He said he had “illegally attacked” Ukraine and was killing innocent women and children, before adding that Ukraine had no intention of holding Russian territory for any length of time.

BRENNAN: On Ukraine. I know you’re very focused on that war. Your forces have launched this bold incursion into Western Russia, into this Kursk area. Do you agree with U.S. weapons being used on Russian soil?

KELLY: Well, Margaret. Yes. You know, I’m at that point. The Ukrainians were illegally attacked by Vladimir Putin. He’s deliberately killing women, children, old people. This incursion was an illegal invasion. Let’s characterize it that way for now. I don’t think the Ukrainians intentionally want to hold Russian territory for any length of time, but this has really embarrassed Putin. He’s always tried to portray himself as someone who’s going to protect Russia. I think his citizens are seeing the results of what he did in Ukraine and are now in some ways at risk. 130,000 Russians have had to flee their homes. And at this point in this conflict, I think the Ukrainians have done something unforeseeable that could really change the course of this complex.
