Mica Galvao wins Super Grand Slam at the ADCC World Champions 2024

Mica Galvao wins Super Grand Slam at the ADCC World Champions 2024

About a week after his girlfriend Amit Elor won a gold medal at the Paris Olympics, Mica Galvao won gold at the so-called “Olympics of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.”

Galvao made Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu history on August 18 when he became only the second person in the sport’s history to complete the IBJJF Grand Slam and an ADCC World Championship in the same year, also known as the “Super Grand Slam.”

He won the championship in the 77 kg class with a victory over veteran Vagner Rocha at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Galvao is the only person besides the legendary Rubens “Cobrinha” Charles to have accomplished this feat, 17 years before Charles, who accomplished the feat in 2017 at the age of 37.

Galvao, the WNO welterweight champion, won a tough fight against PJ Barch to advance to the final, a fight that ended by a judges’ decision. Against Rocha, 22 years his senior, Galvao completed the feat by submitting Rocha with a rear naked choke about 90 seconds before the end of the fight.

Rocha’s two children, Jasmine and Achilles, also competed in the ADCC. He was attempting to become the oldest person to ever win an ADCC world title.
