Senator Mark Kelly from Arizona on immigration and war in Ukraine

(CBS, KYMA/KECY) – Arizona Senator Mark Kelly spoke with Margaret Brennan on Face the Nation Sunday from Chicago this week ahead of the Democratic National Convention (DNC).

Kelly spoke about Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump’s handling of immigration reform and the border.

“The contrast between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris couldn’t be clearer. Kamala Harris supported our bipartisan border security bill that Donald Trump turned his back on Republicans in the Senate. So she’s been on this issue. The number of border crossings at the Arizona border is down significantly. She’s been on this issue where the former president is trying to undermine our border security. I mean, he specifically told my Senate colleagues that they can’t support this bill because he wanted this issue for the election. I’ve never seen anything like it. You know, in my three and a half years in the United States Senate. And I really think it shows that Kamala Harris is the leader who can lead us into the future. Donald Trump just wants to drag us back into the past.”

Senator Kelly also said in his interview with Brennan that Republicans in the United States Senate will return to the bipartisan security bill when the former president is “done and gone.”

During the interview with Brennan, Kelly discussed the war in Ukraine. He said he had no problem with US weapons being used on Russian soil, but added: “I think (Putin’s) citizens are seeing the consequences of what he did in Ukraine and are now at some level of risk… I think the Ukrainians have done something unpredictable that could really change the course of this conflict.”
