Woman arrested and charged in Otter Tail County theft case

OTTER TAIL COUNTY, Minn. (Valley News Live) – A Florida woman was arrested on theft charges in Otter Tail County on Wednesday.

Nadia Islam is accused of fraud and faces up to ten years in prison if convicted.

According to the documents, she conspired with another person to obtain another person’s property valued at more than $35,000.

A victim called Fergus Falls police on Wednesday to report a scam.

According to court documents, the victim’s computer had frozen the day before and he had contacted Microsoft support.

Later, he received another call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft.

Court documents show that this person, or scammer, said they needed to gain remote access to the victim’s computer.

According to the documents, the victim was also asked to withdraw $20,000 from the bank and stated that it was for a home improvement project.

One of the scammers, a man, came to the victim’s house, took the money and disappeared.

According to court documents, the scammers called again the next day and demanded another $20,000.

According to documents, Islam went to the victim’s home in Fergus Falls to pick up the money and was arrested.

Her bail was set at $400,000. She is due back in court on September 11.
