Chatham County residents reported being without water since Saturday night due to a burst water main. Many said they were frustrated that the county never notified them – and continues not to do so.
One resident said the water was turned off around 8 p.m. on Saturday. Another resident had previously seen water on the street around 2 p.m. the same day.
Crews are working to repair the break.
One woman said she was worried because she didn’t know if the water was safe to drink.
A WRAL viewer said the Moncure Fire Department is delivering water to farms with animals.
Some residents are concerned about what would happen if a fire broke out and there was no water to put it out. The deputy fire chief said he spoke to the water authority on Saturday night and was told it was a “non-urgent issue.”
He said the affected area is between the water main break in front of the Duke Power Plant on Corinth Road and Christian Chapel Church Road, which leads off NC Highway 42.
WRAL News has reached out to the county to ask why residents were not notified and why a water main break caused a complete shutdown of residents’ water service. They have not provided us with an answer.
