Oleh Nikolenko, Consul General of Ukraine in Toronto, said that for the first time in history, Ukrainian soldiers took part in the Soldier’s Day parade, which has been held for over 100 years in Toronto, Canada’s largest city, as a sign of gratitude and respect for the Canadian Army.

Details: Nikolenko said that this year, for the first time, Ukrainian soldiers with the Ukrainian flag took part in the Soldier’s Day parade in Toronto. The parade has been held in honour of the Canadian Armed Forces since 1921.

Background:

  • The Canadian government had previously confirmed that Ukraine could freely use tanks, armored vehicles and other equipment donated by Canada on Russian territory.
  • In addition, Canada’s Federal Court rejected a Russian oligarch’s request to lift sanctions imposed on him in connection with Russia’s war against Ukraine.
