Game Notes

There were several impactful moments in this game. In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Ariel Almonte threw out a runner at the plate with a 96 mph throw from right field. After making the tag at the plate, Diego Omana threw to second base to make a double play as the back runner attempted to take a base on the play at the plate. In the 5th inning, Daytona loaded the bases, but Jonah Hurney came out of the bullpen and got a ground out to end the threat. In a game decided by one run, both proved crucial.

Carlos Sanchez has extended his on-base streak to 21 games, starting on July 11 when he was with the ACL Reds. Despite this long on-base streak, he has only achieved a batting average of .250, but he has 24 walks with 23 strikeouts.

Sammy Stafura hit a home run for the second consecutive game. In his two games against Tampa to start the series, he went 4-9 with two walks, two steals, four runs scored and five runs batted in.

Esmith Pineda had multiple hits for the third straight game, getting at least one extra-base hit in each game and drawing two walks. His two hits on Wednesday night brought his season average to .201. It’s the first time he’s finished a game with an average above .197 since he was at .250 after his second game of the year.

Jack Moss also had his third consecutive multi-hit game. He continues to rack up hits. He hit .156 in 11 games in April and .241 in 10 games in May. He started June 0-6. He came off the bench on June 7 and got a pinch-hit single. Since that day, he’s batted .358/.421/.377 for Daytona in 35 games played. He had 13 walks and just 15 strikeouts. He had just two extra-base hits and both were doubles.

Nestor Lorant continues to be successful on the mound. He allowed two runs for only the fourth time this season (and he has allowed more than two in only one of 20 games this year). His ERA rose to 1.49 this season – the highest in nearly two months. He has now thrown 78.2 innings and 21 walks with 87 strikeouts.
