St. Louis Cardinals star Nolan Arenado overtakes Hall of Famer on historic list

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-2 on Saturday night at Busch Stadium. The game was nationally televised and the Cardinals made sure they did not disappoint their home fans.

With the win, St. Louis is now at 61-62. For the Dodgers, who are only 2.0 games ahead in the National League West, the loss was even greater.

In the win, veteran third baseman Nolan Arenado hit 1-for-4 and hit a home run, his 13th of the season and also moving up a prestigious list in National League history.

According to @StatsCentre on social media:

Most home runs in a career – (Primary) 3rd Baseman in the National League:
548 – Mike Schmidt
503 – Eddie Mathews
468 – The man with the glasses
386 – Aramis Ramirez
346 – Matt Williams
338 – Nolan Arenado (over 1 in Saturday’s 5-2 win over LAD)
337 – Ron Santo
312 – Ron Cey
312 – Vinny Castilla

It’s been a pretty bad year for the 33-year-old Arenado. He has a batting average of .268 with just 13 home runs and 55 RBIs. His OPS is .718, with .800 being considered very good.

However, as the statistics show, Arenado has long been one of the most productive players in baseball. In addition to his 338 career home runs, he has 1,116 RBIs. In addition, his batting average is .285.

In his 12th year with the Colorado Rockies and Cardinals, Arenado is an eight-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glover. He is also a five-time Silver Slugger.

Santo played 15 years in the major leagues with the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox. He hit 342 home runs and was a nine-time All-Star. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012.
