Although its legacy is still marred by false promises regarding PvE modes and some shady monetization practices, Overwatch2 has still managed to have a pretty good year so far. 2024 has brought a handful of fun collaborations Overwatch2along with some exciting new heroes and an important change that finally unlocks all heroes for everyone instantly. And Overwatch2 still has a lot in store for the year.

On August 27, 2024 Overwatch2 will receive its 12th season. The 12th season of Overwatch2 could be the hero shooter’s biggest and best game yet, as it features plenty of themed Battle Pass skins, a new mode, two new maps, some important balancing tweaks, and of course, a new support hero.

Overwatch 2 Season 12 begins on August 27

Juno will be released for Overwatch 2 on August 27th

The most exciting innovation in Overwatch2 Season 12, which launches on August 27, will see the arrival of new support hero Juno. Juno is a Space Ranger living on Mars. Her rocket boots allow her to double jump and glide horizontally, while her homing missiles heal allies and damage enemies, and her Hyper Ring increases the movement speed of allies who charge through it. Juno’s primary weapon is her Mediblaster, which heals teammates and damages enemies, similar to Ana’s sniper. Juno’s ultimate sends out an orbital beam that slowly moves forward, healing allies in its area of effect and granting them a 30% damage boost.

Overwatch 2 Season 12’s Battle Pass is packed with new skins

As in every season before, Overwatch2 Season 12 comes with a new Battle Pass and this time it is packed with interesting skins and cosmetics:

The general theme of this season’s Battle Pass is “Ancient,” with a particular focus on Egyptian mythology. Illari, Doomfist, and Reaper all have skins that reference an ancient Egyptian god, while Anas references the Oni of Japanese mythology. Ashe and Sigma’s Season 12 Battle Pass skins are outliers, however, as the former focuses on The Wizard of Ozand the latter is another nautical-themed skin.

From September 17 to October 21, those who link their Battle.net account to their Xbox Game Pass account will receive 30 Mythic Prisms and six Hero Skins at no additional cost.

Overwatch Season 12 brings important competitive updates and hero balances

On 27 August Overwatch2Competitive ranks will be updated, meaning that every player’s rank will be reset to Bronze. This update also brings some changes to Overwatch2‘s Avoid as Teammate feature. A number of hero balance changes will also follow. Overwatch2 in the coming weeks. To counteract highly mobile heroes, Blizzard is reducing the health pools of several damage and support heroes. Lifeweaver is getting a handful of changes, including reworks to his Petal Platform and Rejuvenating Dash.

Overwatch Season 12 adds a new game mode and two new maps

After a short two-week test in April, Blizzard officially adds the Clash game mode Overwatch2 in Season 12. In this Clash game mode, two attacking teams try to capture and defend five control points simultaneously. Two new maps revolving around this mode will also be added Overwatch2 in Season 12, namely Throne of Anubis and Hanaoka, new versions of two classics Watch cards.
