DETROIT – Aaron Boone’s 12-year-old Little League team in Southern California never came close to Williamsport, but as an ESPN commentator, he finally made it there.

So the Yankees manager has an idea of what to expect from his players on Sunday – weather permitting – when the Yankees visit the Little League World Series complex before playing the Tigers in the Little League Classic at Bowman Field.

“It was amazing to go up there for the first time,” Boone said Saturday before a 4-0 loss to the Tigers at Comerica Park. “Everything I imagined and dreamed of and maybe more. To do that over the years and see big league teams come through is a great experience. I know our guys are going to love it.”

“I’m looking forward to coming in (Sunday) and meeting and hanging out with some of the Little League World Series players – obviously you know how excited they’re going to be to meet some of our guys. It’s a cool day and we’re lucky to be able to do that.”

As long as the weather plays along, of course.

The weather forecast for Williamsport calls for storms on Sunday, but at least as of Saturday afternoon, the Yankees had planned to fly there on Sunday morning to mingle with the Little League players and then try to get in the game.

If postponed, the teams could fly back to Detroit on Sunday evening and play the series finale on Monday at Comerica Park.

Such a scenario would pose a travel headache for the Yankees, but Boone was confident his players would enjoy their brief appearance at the Little League World Series.

“I know from experience and knowing what’s coming, they’re going to love it,” Boone said. “I’ve talked to (Aaron Judge) a little bit about it and I know he’s excited about it. These kids are obviously going to be impressed with some of our guys, especially Aaron and Juan (Soto) and Giancarlo (Stanton) and Gerrit (Cole). But they’re going to be excited about the experience.”
