What is the route of this year’s race?

What is the route of this year’s race?

Thousands will take to the streets and populate the sidewalks of the capital in the coming weeks.

Since the Big Half takes place in early September 2024, important streets in the city center will be closed.

“The Big Half” is considered one of the most “inclusive” events in the running calendar and is aimed at anyone who wants to run a half marathon around the sights of London.

Organisers say: “Join thousands of other participants in this spectacular half marathon through the heart of London. Great for beginners and experienced runners alike. Come for the finisher’s medal or to celebrate London’s diversity.”

In addition to the Big Half, there is also the Big Mile for smaller runners who want to take part.

A spokesman for London Marathon Events said: “The Big Half is a vibrant, inclusive half marathon with a fun festival atmosphere. The 13.1 mile route winds through London from Tower Bridge to the iconic Cutty Sark in Greenwich.

“The New Balance Big Relay covers the same route in four stages and the Big Mile is a free, family-friendly event that takes place on the same finish line.”

The annual event is scheduled to take place again in the coming weeks. Here’s what we know:

When is The Big Half 2024?

The Big Half takes place on Sunday 1st September, starting at 08:25 with the elite wheelchair race, followed by the elite men and women and the first mass wave at 08:30. After that, waves every 10 minutes until 10:00.

It is a chip-timed and fully monitored event with a finisher’s medal at the end of the 21.1-kilometer course.

What does the route look like this year?

The course starts at Tower Bridge. From here, participants head to Canary Wharf, then back on the highway, cross Tower Bridge and enter the Southwark district before reaching the finish at the famous Cutty Sark in Greenwich.

Participants are asked to use public transport to get to the start point as there will be no parking available and many roads in the area will be closed for the event. The closest tube stations are Fenchurch Street and Tower Hill.

The organisers say that an event guide will be emailed to registrants before the day of the event with full details of everything you need, but there is also information on where your official start point is depending on the letter on your race number. You can find all the details here.
