Buccaneers lose second preseason game against Jaguars

Buccaneers lose second preseason game against Jaguars

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had hoped to extend their two-game winning streak from the preseason, but that never came to pass.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost 20-7 to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday, bringing their preseason record to 1-1, and the team was unable to use most of its regular players for the second week in a row.

The first quarter was uneventful, as both teams failed to score and punted at the end of each possession. The Buccaneers came closest to a highlight when cornerback Bryce Hall appeared to intercept a pass from Mac Jones, but he was assessed a pass interference penalty on the play. The team’s pass rush was good, and outside linebacker Jose Ramirez recorded a sack before the end of the first quarter.

The Jaguars were on the brink of elimination early in the second quarter and after what seemed like an eternity, they actually struck first when Mac Jones threw a touchdown pass to Parker Washington on 3rd and 17. That made it 7-0 to the Jaguars, but the Buccaneers struck back right after when Kyle Trask led the team down the field and hit WR Cody Thompson with a six-yard touchdown pass to tie the score. The Jaguars got the ball back with 41 seconds left in the half and made it to the nine-yard line, but were stopped and had to kick to make it 10-7 at halftime.

The Bucs’ offense was stifled in the third quarter and failed to score a single point during John Wolford’s time at quarterback. The Jaguars, however, were more successful, kicking a 44-yard field goal to make it 13-7. From there, the score remained the same until the fourth quarter.

Tampa Bay’s offensive woes continued in the fourth quarter, where a series of three-and-outs for the Buccaneers were the norm. The Jaguars couldn’t do much either, as QB CJ Beathard left the game with a groin injury and the Buccaneers forced a fumble on a Mac Jones drive with about 10 minutes left, but Chase McLaughlin missed a field goal attempt on the ensuing drive. The Jaguars sealed the win on the next drive with a deep ball touchdown with five minutes left, and the Buccaneers couldn’t answer despite being inside the five – Kyle Trask was sacked on the game’s final play, ending things.

The Bucs return to Tampa Bay next week to face the Miami Dolphins in their final preseason game.
