Several girls’ soccer teams in the district start the season victoriously

The IHSAA girls soccer season began last Saturday in Hamilton County with several teams meeting for big games.

Noblesville, the two-time defending champion, opened its season with a match against Cathedral at the Hallmark Orthodontics Soccer Complex. The Millers easily cruised to a 4-0 victory, scoring two goals in each half.

Kaydence Fleck put Noblesville on the scoreboard in the eighth minute of play, with an assist from Lily Ault. Fleck assisted on the Millers’ second goal, scored by Meredith Tippner in the 32nd minute.and minute and gave Noblesville a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Tippner struck again early in the second half, scoring a goal in the 45th minute.th Minute. Bella Wyatt provided the assist for this goal. Delaney Stone finished the game with a 49th-minute goal; Diem Bromley had the assist.

“It’s fun to get together and play, but it’s still very early and we have a lot of work to do,” said Millers coach Mike Brady, who is leading his 22and season as coach of the Noblesville girls. “But it’s good to play against a team like Cathedral, and they’ll be competing for a state title this year.”

The Millers’ next game is on Wednesday at Pendleton Heights.

Hamilton Southeastern won an early clash of top-ranked teams, beating Carmel 3-1 on the Royals’ field.

Gracie Pyle put Southeastern on the scoreboard with a first-half goal, which would be the only goal of the period. The Greyhounds’ Elsie Flanders tied the game in the second half on an assist from Kate Klinginsmith. But then Royals freshman Sydney May took the lead and scored two more goals to secure the win for Southeastern.

Sloane May had two assists and Pyle also had one.

This week, the Royals travel to Franklin Central on Wednesday to begin Hoosier Crossroads Conference play, then head to Newton Park in Lakeville on Friday for an evening game against Penn. Southeastern then faces Evansville Memorial on Saturday, also at Newton Park.

Carmel has its first home game on Tuesday, hosting South Bend St. Joseph at Murray Stadium. The Hounds then play at Guerin Catholic on Saturday morning.

Westfield hosted Guerin Catholic in the school’s opener, and the Shamrocks defeated the defending 2A state champion Golden Eagles 2-1.

Guerin Catholic scored first, with Mia Gatz scoring an unassisted goal. Westfield’s Kate Malin tied the game in the 33rd minute.rd Minute, then he scored at the beginning of the second half with a 47th-minute goal that gave the Rocks the win.

Westfield travels to Fishers for an HCC game on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles also play on Wednesday, hosting Zionsville before facing Carmel on Saturday.

Fishers began its season with a 4-2 win at McCutcheon.

Junior Elise May scored two goals for the Tigers, senior Grace Preston and junior Delaney Allgeier each added a goal. Sophomore Jena Love and senior Lauren Faulkner each had an assist.

Fishers will play its first home game against Park Tudor on Monday before hosting Westfield on Wednesday.
