The Seahawks offense had problems in the second half against the Titans

The Seattle Seahawks started strong against the Tennessee Titans on Saturday night, taking a 12-7 lead into halftime. Quarterback Sam Howell had thrown 153 yards in passes and the running backs had rushed for 65 yards as a team on 12 carries.

Unfortunately, that’s when it all started to dry up, as the Seahawks as a team finished the game with… just 191 yards passing and 64 yards rushing on six carries. Yeah, that’s not what you want to see.

Here’s how every Seahawks possession went in the second half:

  • five plays, -1 yard, punt
  • three plays, 13 yards, punt (false start penalty)
  • three plays, -1 yard, punt
  • five plays, 22 yards, field goal

The inability to literally run the ball at all in the second half was the end for this team and directly contributed to the offense not being able to sustain any offense until the end of the game. Unfortunately, the Seahawks offense in the second half looked more like what we saw last year than what the unit looked like last week against the Chargers.

The silver lining is that the team was comprised primarily of alternates and reserve players for the second half. None of the starters played in Tennessee, so the alternates bore the lion’s share of the responsibility. I don’t think that was an indication of what the Seahawks offense will look like on September 8th.

Still, a total of -1 rushing yards in two quarters of football isn’t going to cut it, preseason or not.
