Dark Matter from Apple TV+

After the finale of the first season of the critically acclaimed science fiction series from Apple TV+ Dark matterwe chatted with series creator Blake Crouch. The last episode left many questions, but also many solutions. We told Crouch: “It felt very complete. It felt like I would be sad if I never got another episode of it. But I also felt like I was in good hands.”

At this point, Crouch was not sure Dark matter future. He told GGA: “Here’s the honest answer. I don’t know if there will be a second season. I think we’re getting close to the moment where the next phase will be decided and part of that will be in the hands of Apple and part of that will be us making a really introspective gut decision ourselves.”

It’s a story about the road not taken. The series follows Jason Dessen (Edgerton), a physicist, professor and family man who is whisked away into another version of his life one night while walking home through the streets of Chicago. The miracle quickly turns into a nightmare as he tries to return to his reality amidst the confusing landscape of lives he could have lived. In this labyrinth of realities, he embarks on a harrowing journey to return to his true family and save them from the most terrifying and invincible enemy imaginable: himself.

See you in the box

Crouch said of Dark Matter’s second season renewal: “Thank you to everyone who tuned in to Season 1 – book fans and new fans – and of course our partners at Apple and Sony, my amazing producing partner Matt Tolmach, our amazing cast and crew, and the amazing city of Chicago – you’ve been so kind to us. As we wrote and shot the first season, we discovered there was so much more story to tell, and we’ve only just scratched the surface of these characters fighting to survive and find their way home through a landscape of insane realities. See you in the box!”

At the end of Season 1, a group of Multiverse Jasons allow the Dessens Prime to embark on their own journey in the box. This was a good ending, even if it didn’t continue in Season 2. However, many questions remained unanswered, including:

  • A version of Ryan (most likely the one who was stranded) that Lavender Fairy appears to have recreated. He then surprises Amanda in her new, beautiful world.
  • A seemingly angry Dawn, now missing a few fingers, stood in the door of the box.
  • In this crazy, hornet-infested world, Blair has found the courage to begin her journey again.
  • Leighton enjoyed his journey through the box. As Crouch put it in our interview, Leighton is “partying all over the multiverse, looking for the right vibe.” So we just have to know where he got his epaulettes!
