Two more garment factories – Saadatia Sweaters Ltd in Ashulia, Dhaka and Executive Greentex Ltd in Sreepur, Gazipur – recently received LEED certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), bringing the total number of green factories in the country to 226, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) said.

Bangladesh is home to 60 of the world’s 100 highest-rated LEED factories. Two more – Saadatia Sweaters Ltd (Platinum) and Executive Greentex Ltd (Gold) – recently received certification from the US Green Building Council, bringing the number of such factories in the country to 226. There are 89 Platinum and 123 Gold-certified factories in the country.

Saadatia Sweaters received platinum certification with a score of 91, while Executive Greentex received gold certification with 69. Domestic media reported that there are 89 platinum and 123 gold certified factories in the country.

The council awards factories based on criteria such as transformation performance and energy, water and waste management.
