The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award is presented each year to the best quarterback in the senior class or high school student graduating from his class. The preseason watch list, semifinalists, finalists and award winners are selected by the prestigious Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Selection Committee, a group of prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers and former players.
Garbers enters 2024 as the Bruins’ top quarterback after starting six games in 2023. His junior season was highlighted by a season-high three passes in a 38-20 win over cross-town rival USC at the LA Memorial Coliseum and a dominant performance as a substitute in a 35-22 win over Boise State in the LA Bowl that earned him Offensive MVP honors.
Cade McNown, who received the award in 1998, is the only Bruin to take home the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award in the team’s 36-year history.
This year’s honoree will receive the Golden Arm Award trophy at the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Ceremony at the Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland on Friday, December 6, 2024.
The Bruins’ 2024 season begins on Saturday, August 31 at 4:30 p.m. PT when UCLA travels to Honolulu to face Hawaii. The contest will be televised on CBS. UCLA’s first home game at the Rose Bowl will be their first-ever Big Ten Conference matchup against Indiana on Saturday, September 14 at 4:30 p.m.
