Washington Commanders: Observations on the 1st half against the Dolphins

Washington Commanders: Observations on the 1st half against the Dolphins

The Commanders trailed the Dolphins 10-6 at halftime.

Here are some observations about the first half:

  1. Jayden Daniels looked calm and controlled, completing 10 of 12 attempts for 78 yards. He had a well-timed run of 13 yards.
  2. Jeff Driskel showed that he has what it takes with a 41-yard run. Driskel was a pleasant surprise and made good plays in the pocket in both games. He completed 7 of 10 passes for 57 yards.
  3. I was hoping Riley Patterson would kick well tonight and poke his way toward defending his title, but since he missed two field goals in the first half, that’s most likely not going to happen.
  4. Dyami Brown has earned Daniels’ trust. Brown caught three passes early and caught all three for 19 yards.
  5. The Commanders had two 11-yard runs by Brian Robinson and another 11-yard run by Michael Wiley.
  6. On a 3rd and 2, Austin Ekeler followed a good inside push from the OLine; however, Andrew Wylie was flagged for holding, leading to a 3rd and 12. This was huge as it basically ended the drive and forced a field goal attempt.
  7. On defense, Jamin Davis did well as he forced a quick pass and also jumped up to block the pass.
  8. Frankie Luvu was involved in four tackles on the Dolphins’ first possession. He was very active out there.
  9. Percy Butler was beaten during the touchdown, but was able to reach the ball with one finger and deflect it just enough to prevent a touchdown.
  10. The Commanders showed plenty of Kliff Kingsbury’s uptempo offense.
