Cal Fire responds to Cypress Fire in North County

UPDATE (7.10pm):

The Cypress Fire in northern San Luis Obispo County has grown to 88 acres.

Containment remains at 5%.

Cal Fire says the same 80 crews who fought the fire today will continue working overnight.

During the darkness, no support from firefighting aircraft is possible in fighting the fire.

Instead, ground crews – including firefighters, fire engines and bulldozers – will fight the flames.

UPDATE (4:45 p.m.):

The Cypress Fire still has 65 acres (26.6 ha) of fire burning, and the fire is now 5% contained, according to Cal Fire.

Officials say the funds will be made available overnight.

So far no buildings have been damaged.

UPDATE (3pm):

Authorities are now calling it the Cypress Fire.

According to the Cal Fire website, the flames destroyed 65 acres of land.

There are currently 80 forces on site.

Cal Fire units are on the scene of a vegetation fire that broke out this afternoon in North County.

The flames are currently raging near Cypress Mountain Drive, north of Highway 46.

As of 2 p.m., Cal Fire reported that the fire had destroyed about 20 acres of land and confirmed that there were structures nearby.

Seven fire engines, five tankers, three bulldozers, two helicopters and an air strike are deployed on site to fight the flames.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
