BALTIMORE – WJZ’s First Alert Weather Team has issued a warning for possible strong to severe storms for Sunday.

The early evening showers and thunderstorms will move further east out of the area and weaken as they do so. Some showers and lightning are still possible, especially along the central and lower eastern shore of Maryland.

Expect mostly dry, muggy weather tonight with lows around 25 degrees and mostly cloudy skies. There may be some isolated fog in areas where there will be storms this evening.

Sunday is expected to be a day of severe weather, with the risk of severe storms much higher in the afternoon and evening. The morning will see a mix of sunshine and clouds. Temperatures will quickly rise to 27 to 30 degrees in the early afternoon. Isolated strong to severe storms will develop after 2 p.m. The storms will consolidate into a few clusters or lines of severe storms, with damaging winds and flash flooding being the greatest threat. Please pay attention to the weather on Sunday and check multiple ways to receive alerts.

All severe storms should be over before 10 p.m. on Sunday. Sunday night will be partly cloudy and mild with lows between 18 and 20 degrees.

The slow-moving cold front responsible for these storms will finally cross the area on Monday. This front will bring with it more scattered to isolated showers and storms. Fortunately, the storms on Monday are not expected to be very severe.

Tuesday will bring a refreshing, almost autumnal feel that will last through Wednesday. We’ll experience a mix of clouds and sunshine. Afternoon temperatures will be below average, ranging between 25 and 30 degrees. Early morning temperatures will drop to 10 degrees in most areas!

This forecast will be dominated by high pressure until the start of next weekend. This means that from Thursday to Saturday there will be continued sunshine and the temperature will gradually warm up. Highs on Thursday will be around 27 degrees, rising to over 30 degrees by the start of next weekend. A return to the typical August feeling!
