Steelers lose to Bills in second preseason game

Steelers lose to Bills in second preseason game

Substitute Justin Fields didn’t fare much better. The Steelers managed just 219 yards in a 9-3 loss to the Bills on Saturday night at Acrisure Stadium.

The loss leaves the Steelers at 0-2 in the preseason and perhaps makes the final preseason game next Saturday in Detroit even more urgent.

Although Wilson and Fields completed 19 of 27 passes together, they only covered 139 yards.

Wilson, who was signed as a free agent in the offseason, made his first appearance of the preseason after suffering a calf injury during the team’s conditioning workout at training camp.

The nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback came under pressure early and often, as Buffalo defensive end Gregory Rousseau forced him into two solo sacks on the Steelers’ first three possessions and shared another sack with defensive tackle Ed Oliver.

Fortunately for the Steelers, who were without outside linebackers TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith and defensive tackle Cam Heyward, the Bills also opted to bench quarterback Josh Allen after heavy rains soaked the field at Acrisure Stadium before the game began.

In his absence, former Steelers quarterback Mitch Trubisky started for the Bills, and it was a mistake by Trubisky that led to the first scoring opportunity of the game.

After both teams exchanged several punts in the first quarter, Trubisky, who had been sacked twice in the first quarter, was forced into a fumble on Buffalo’s second possession of the second quarter and was intercepted by safety Miles Killebrew at the Pittsburgh 42-yard line.
