Standoff after person shoots Paulding County deputy and citizen

Deputies are currently in a standoff with an individual who shot and killed a deputy and a citizen on Saturday night.

Due to the current situation, residents are asked to avoid the area of ​​Bill Carruth Parkway near Virgie Ballentine Drive in Hiram.

According to the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, both the officer and citizen were taken to a nearby hospital. Few details were released other than to avoid the area.

FOX 5 crews saw multiple law enforcement agencies on scene, including the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, Powder Springs Police Department and Cobb County Police Department. Several dozen officers were observed walking into a residential development along Virgie Ballentine Drive.

Several law enforcement agencies are posting messages on various social media platforms asking for prayers for the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office.

The MPs speak of a “very active law enforcement situation”.

Although the incident occurred near Hiram High School, there is no evidence that the school was involved in any way.
