SURF CITY – A Hampstead man has died after emergency responders attempted to save his life Saturday afternoon.

According to the City of Surf City, 41-year-old Sean A. Davis was found unconscious when two swimmers from the Surf City Fire Department’s rescue unit pulled him from the water. The incident occurred at 2:46 p.m. at Beach Access #10.

When Surf City Fire Department reached shore with the victim, they performed CPR and advanced life support. Pender EMS and the fire department also attempted to rescue Davis.

The Surf City Fire Department is posting flags on the beach to remind beachgoers to be aware of surf conditions. The National Weather Service in Wilmington has warned beachgoers of dangerous surf conditions and rip currents through Monday as Hurricane Ernesto moves into Bermuda on Saturday.
