Caleb Williams reacts epically to comparisons with Patrick Mahomes

Caleb Williams reacts epically to comparisons with Patrick Mahomes

Caleb Williams and the Bears offense got off to a rocky start in the first quarter against the Cincinnati Bengals. In his first 14 snaps, Williams completed just 4 of 8 passes for 19 yards, looked a bit out of sync, and may have had trouble reading the field. Things improved in the second quarter, however. Williams completed 4 of 7 passes for 70 yards and scored a rushing touchdown. He also led two scoring drives, including one where a long pass to Tyler Scott resulted in a defensive pass interference call that could have been a big catch or even a touchdown. Despite the slow start, Williams showed why he was the number one overall pick, showing resilience and the ability to bounce back.

Superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill even tweeted on Saturday afternoon that Williams reminds him of someone, likely in reference to his former teammate, three-time Super Bowl winner Patrick Mahomes. The comparison to Mahomes has been common for Williams since his college days. When asked about those comparisons and Hill’s tweet, Williams gave a great answer to the direct question.

“It’s about respect, cool and all that. But I’m Caleb Williams. Patrick Mahomes is Patrick Mahomes. Tyreek Hill is Tyreek Hill. We are here to win games for the Chicago Bears. Da Bears

Williams’ humility is evident as he downplays comparisons to great players like Mahomes. But what really makes his answer stand out are the last 11 words:

“We’re here to win games for the Chicago Bears…Da Bears.”
