Erin Moriarty hits back at Megyn Kelly after comments on plastic surgery

Erin Moriarty says she has been the victim of “verbal abuse” online and has had difficulty eating or sleeping since former Fox News host Megyn Kelly accused her of having plastic surgery.

The 29-year-old actress, who played Starlight in the Amazon Prime series “The Boys,” wrote a lengthy post on Instagram describing the “bullying” she faced after Kelly criticized her appearance.

Moriarty said she became aware of the comments after “one of the most difficult weeks of my life” when she was sent “a message about a disgustingly false, counterproductive and ironically misogynistic video by Megyn Kelly.”

The actress said she expected “verbal abuse” and “accusations” when she returned to the spotlight “10 pounds lighter,” but the abuse she has received since Kelly’s comments has left her “horrified.”

In an episode of Kelly’s eponymous SiriusXM show that aired Jan. 17, the 53-year-old host used Moriarty as an example for young people undergoing plastic surgery, commenting on her weight and facial features.

Speaking to a guest, Kelly compared an old and a newer photo of Moriarty, which she said was taken “within the last year or so,” and accused her of choosing to “completely change” her face through cosmetic surgery.

Describing her as “a very beautiful girl” in the first photo, she went on to say, “And now look at her,” and listed all the procedures she believes Moriarty has undergone, including “Kim Kardashian lips,” a “nose so thin it looks like a pencil,” and “cheek implants.”

Kelly continues: “More and more young women are doing this.

“This is not an objection to plastic surgery, but an obsession with transforming yourself into a false version of yourself… I see this as a sign of mental illness. I really want to get into the heads of these young girls and tell them, ‘Please don’t do this.'”

In response, Moriarty said in her Instagram post that the first photo was taken nearly a decade ago, before she reached the “legal drinking age.”

She said the second picture was taken on a day when she had her makeup professionally done, which “involves heavy contouring, and I remember feeling pretty when I left. And even that day was an incredibly stressful day for me.”

She said the subsequent posts were “devastating enough to just turn off my comments” and had become “harassment” and “fake news.”

Moriarty said she would no longer use her Instagram account and only did not deactivate it so that her responses to Kelly’s comments would remain online.

She continued: “I am appalled by the response, the simplistic assumptions and the above mentioned video which is a prime example of such harassment.”

“It broke my heart. You broke my heart. You lost the privilege of this account.”

She accused Kelly of spreading a message of “exhibitionist feminism” and said the videos were “absolutely wrong” and there was “no excuse” for the way she was treated or spoken to.

Sky News has contacted Kelly for comment.
