Bernhardt appointed new North Riverton game warden

CASPER, Wyo. – Zachary Bernhardt is the new game warden for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department in North Riverton.

Born and raised in Parker, Colorado, Bernhardt grew up in a family that loved the outdoors and frequently went camping, fishing and hiking in the Rocky Mountains.

Bernhardt attended the University of Wyoming and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology and management in May 2023. Just one month later, he was hired as a Wyoming game warden and graduated from the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy in November 2023.

At the academy, Bernhardt earned the “Top Shot” award for 100% accuracy with both rifle and pistol. Bernhardt began his training in the Lander area and was promoted to Senior Game Warden in North Riverton in February, replacing Jon Desonier, who moved to Lander Access Coordinator with the WGFD.

“I look forward to working with the Riverton community, getting to know the area and experiencing the great hunting, fishing and recreational opportunities the North Riverton District has to offer,” said Bernhardt.

Wyoming game wardens are responsible for wildlife law enforcement and education, damage prevention, data collection, and wildlife management.
