Fans of dystopian thrillers and Tom Hiddleston have little time left to skyscraper on Hulu before it leaves the platform 31.August. This 2015 British film directed by Ben Wheatley and based on the 1975 novel of the same name by JG Ballard is a gritty examination of the breakdown of society set in a luxury high-rise.

The building’s architect, Anthony Royal, played by Jeremy Irons, designed the tower as a microcosm of society, with the wealthiest residents occupying the upper floors while the lower floors house those of lower status. As the building’s infrastructure begins to fail, so does the social fabric of its residents. What begins as minor annoyances quickly escalates into a full-blown descent into chaos as class differences become starkly apparent and violence erupts.

The film’s impressive cast also includes Sienna Miller, Luke Evans and Elisabeth Moss, all of whom deliver powerful performances that contribute to the film’s unsettling atmosphere. skyscraper was praised for its striking imagery and faithful adaptation of Ballard’s novel, but divided critics with its disturbing tone and grim portrayal of human nature. While some appreciated its bold narrative and social commentary, others found it too grim and disorienting.
