Is Haney still a champion?

The WBC has officially classified Haney as a recess champion as his application to the Sanctions Committee was approved. Now the WBC has declared Alberto Puello as a full champion on July 15 and has given him a mandatory defense against Sandor Martin.

Haney was originally scheduled to defend his title against mandatory challenger Martin, but was disappointed with the purse for the fight. Haney’s fight against Garcia did not involve the former’s title being on the line as Ryan Garcia failed to make weight and was 3.2 pounds over the 140-pound weight limit.
