Youssouf Fofana will soon become an official AC Milan player. This morning he underwent his medical tests and the fans are very happy with the deal. However, the negotiations took a long time and according to a report, the technical director Goeffreo Monacada was decisive.

Since Moncada began his career at Monaco as a scout, it was clear to everyone that he was instrumental in the negotiations for Fofana. How crucial he was is not yet clear, but the picture is now clear.

As the reliable Matteo Moretto reported for the Daily Briefing, Milan worked very hard on the deal from the start, but always with a lot of discretion. Their patience never waned, and that was thanks to Fofana’s relationship with Moncada, who already wanted to sign the midfielder in Monaco (when the latter was in Strasbourg).

Fofana and Moncada have known each other for a long time and have a very good relationship. The 25-year-old turned down requests from other clubs, so there were no concrete offers on the table other than the one from Milan.

A contract agreement was reached between Milan and Fofana “months ago” and includes a four-year contract with a salary of €3 million per season and an option for a further year. As for the talks with Monaco, Giorgio Furlani tried to get the best deal for the Rossoneri and in the end he succeeded.

The final amount was €23m plus a €2m bonus, which is far from the high demands Monaco made earlier this summer. Fofana’s agents also demand a high commission, but in the end the relationship between Moncada and Fofana was the deciding factor in the deal.

As I said, Fofana arrived this morning for his medical tests and tonight he should be at the San Siro.
