During a press conference at the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) for Those who are about to dieSeries creator Roland Emmerich revealed that he sees the story of his new Peacock show as a trilogy.

“It should be a trilogy,” The filmmaker confirmed this and stressed that the release status of a second season or another season is yet to be determined:

“It’s supposed to be a trilogy and we’ll see if it’s successful enough. At the moment I only know the numbers from Amazon Prime International and in 31 countries it’s number one, which is a good sign. I don’t have the numbers for America yet, though. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.”

But why a trilogy? Well, “it has something to do with Tenax” and how he finds out his real name:

“Because it has something to do with Tenax. Tenax will find out that he has a certain name, and suddenly the chance of him becoming emperor is pretty high. And I want to show him as emperor at the very end of season three.”

Roland Emmerich also made it clear that he hopes audiences will decide to binge the new series. “within two or three days” instead of observing over a longer period of time:

“I like that everything is released because people can still watch it occasionally, but I always hope they watch it in one sitting within two or three days.”

Several other cast members were on hand to talk about the show and how they would like to see their characters develop in a second season, if it happens.

Gabriella Pession, who played Antonia, explained that she would like to see the relationship between her and Cala continue to flourish:

“I like the relationship she developed with Cala towards the end of the season. You see two very different women who are similar in their differences, like yin and yang, black and white, mirroring each other in a way where opposites can attract and conflict. What’s interesting to me is that I would like to see these two women interact more in the second season.”

Unfortunately for Dimitri Leonidas, Scorpus didn’t survive the first season, so his future there is unlikely to be very promising:

“Scorpus is in Olympus. While we’re there, maybe we should pay him a visit. He’ll be with his horses.”

Jojo Macari, who plays Domitian, admitted that he “crazy things as emperor” and joked that his character might be able to start a new chapter:

“Even more evil. Or it goes the other way around. A really nice guy who repents comes back and starts handing out cookies… …The thing is, Domitian is actually, historically, emperor or becomes emperor later in his life. So it would be nice to do crazy things as emperor.”

For Moe Hasim’s Kwame, the actor definitely deserves a nice break – maybe to “a beautiful little house” or “a woman:”

“My character is tired, man. He’s tired of fighting. He just wants to live the life of a Roman. Maybe in season two, with the money I’ve made, I can get out of the prison cells and buy myself a nice little house, maybe a wife.”

Iwan Rheon wonders whether “Cala and Tenax will be able to settle their differences” after her rocky road in season 1:

“It’s just going to be interesting to see how he deals with the choices he’s made and the monster he’s created and then how he’s going to be able to handle this situation. And will Cala and Tenax be able to put their differences behind them?”
