Bryce Dallas Howard explains the infamous high heels scene from Jurassic World

Bryce Dallas Howard explains the infamous high heels scene from Jurassic World

Jurassic World ended the summer as the third highest-grossing film of ALL TIME, grossing over a billion dollars at the worldwide box office. Yet the main discussion at the time revolved around the choice of shoes worn by Bryce Dallas Howard’s character Claire.

Her insistence on wearing high heels throughout the film, including a memorable scene in which she runs away from a T-Rex in stilettos, was dismissed as “lazy cinematography” by Vulture and called “a tiny but maddening detail” by The Dissolve that made the film a “failure.”

The actress herself disagrees. She explained to Yahoo why her character’s choice of shoes for the film was completely “logical,” seemingly putting an end to the discussion once and for all.

Watch our exclusive interview with Bryce Dallas Howard above about the DVD and Blu-ray release of Jurassic World on October 19th.

“(Claire) is ill-equipped to be in the jungle. This person does not belong in the jungle,” Bryce argues.

“And when they end up in the jungle, the question is: How does this person adapt to life in the jungle?”

“From a logical point of view, I don’t think she would take off her heels,” she adds.

“I don’t think she would choose to be barefoot. I don’t think she would run any faster barefoot in a jungle with vines and rocks.”

“I’m better equipped to run when I have shoes on my feet. So that’s my perspective on it. I don’t think she would carry around flats. I think she’s someone who could sprint a marathon in high heels.”

“For me, it was actually logical that she found herself in this very illogical situation, because she doesn’t belong in the jungle and yet she finds herself there and has to adapt.”

So there you have it, I think we can finally call Jurassic World’s “High Heels Gate” extinct.
