We have quite a lot of action this week Time of longing Abigail’s home with a surprising twist, Fiona has done the unthinkable and Gabi has destroyed her happy marriage. But does the show sacrifice characters for drama? Maybe, but it could still be worth it if done right! Let’s see how the show handles things…

Close to home

I know Sarah’s paralysis is probably reminiscent of Maggie’s paralysis when she first appeared on the show, but doing that to Linsey Godfrey is tough. For those who don’t know, in 2015 Godfrey was hit by a car, breaking both her ankles and shins. While she wasn’t paralyzed, she couldn’t walk for a while, so this storyline has to hit uncomfortably close. I suspect that’s part of what she and Paul Telfer shared about the difficult storyline to come. While Godfrey has made a full recovery, I can’t imagine being asked to relive something like that as Sarah.

Xander holds his phone to his ear and looks over at the battered and motionless Sarah on the floor.

And yes, it’s full of drama, with Xander’s mother paralyzing his wife on their wedding night and framing his nephew for a hit and run. Just writing that down is enough. We’re definitely going to see some great performances here. I was already moved by Maggie blaming herself for losing the keys to the Horton cabin.

But the show has already hampered a character we really wanted to get to know and who we actually like. We’ve waited forever to meet Fiona, and while we expected her entrance to be messy and emotional, how on earth do you recover from something like that? How could Xander ever trust or forgive her? How could we?

Fiona hugs Xander in the hospital

This is a sin Days keeps making mistakes, frustratingly. The show introduces characters and makes us hate them almost from the start, only to convince us later that we should like them. I don’t expect Fiona to be on screen permanently, but I feel like we – and the characters on screen – are meant to forgive her by the end of this story.

Whether Time of longing Whether it works or not is the question.

Don’t count on her yet

I’m pleasantly surprised, but I like how AnnaLynne McCord plays MaybeAbigail and I enjoy the mystery. Yes, she could be faking the whole thing, but her reaction to everything from backing away from Jack’s embrace to panicking at the thought of being introduced to kids she doesn’t know is relatable.

Stefan looks at a tense Abigail and a stern looking Chad

And I enjoyed the scenes with Abigail, Chad, and Stefan on Friday, from Stefan’s reaction to the bizarre “resurrection” to the two brothers rehashing the Abigail/Gabby thing.

Her call today makes it seem like she’s faking it all, but that’s not the case. not means she is not Abigail. If she actually had an accident that gave her amnesia and required plastic surgery, she might just think she is pretending to be Abigail. You know, like the Uncle Fester twist in The Addams Family Movie. Spoiler alert! (Just in case anyone accuses me of spoiling a movie that’s over 30 years old.) Throughout the movie, we think Fester is an imposter trying to steal the family fortune, only to discover he’s the real one with amnesia who was tricked into tricking them.

And honestly, that wouldn’t be a bad thing for Abigail.

On the other hand, if she’s not Abigail and the DNA test results weren’t altered, that means she’s another one of Jack’s daughters. A lost twin of Abigail? A lost twin of Gwen? I heard someone say she could be Gwen with plastic surgery and amnesia – which would have been a hell of a twist. But she answered the phone last week when Leo called and told him to go to hell. That was after Jack and Chad were already looking for the woman in the video.

Just call her “the cleaning lady”

I’m starting to think Connie is being used to clean up the screen and erase characters Days of our livess want to get rid of. Because as much as I hate to say it, I’m starting to worry that Melinda’s time might be up. And that would be such a waste. She’s always been a promising character who never really gets a chance to shine. Every time it seems like she’s going to get a story to go on with, the show backs off. I thought maybe she’d get more screen time working with Gabi, Ava, and Kristen, but it seems like she was only included in DiMera to put her at odds with Connie.

On opposite sides of a door, Melinda stares at Connie

This week also saw another disappointing reveal. Lori mentioned last week how Connie waited about thirty seconds to go from her promise to wait for the perfect moment to reveal Ava and Stefan to her actual reveal. Then Gabi did the same thing this week. Come on, this is the woman who turned EJ’s life upside down at a press conference! The best she can do with Stefan and Ava is confront them at the bistro over lunch? Oh well.

Stray thoughts …

  • Brady, buddy, just be a monk now. You just can’t help but get involved with women who will do you the most damage possible.

Brady puts his hand to his head and emphasizes

  • Did anyone else notice Chad’s head shake and grunt when Abigail noticed that Stefan O. was named after “the big guy”? (He wasn’t, he named himself that.) Thanks for that laugh, Billy Flynn.
  • When Gabi talks about how important Gabi Chic is to Kristen’s return to DiMera, I wonder even more what the hell this company is doing.
  • EJ is still missing. We’ll see him interact with Abigail next week, but man, the nonexistent postpartum stuff was a huge disappointment for him. Please find some direction for him soon.
  • Also, Rafe is still in a coma and isn’t seen. Is the show trying to save money by writing out characters for weeks and months at a time? John, Steve, Rafe…

  • Body and soul had some jokes this week. Talk about it amongst yourselves if you want.
