The Astra Theater hosts a party to watch a Little League game

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – It’s a big night for the Jasper community and specifically their 12U Little League Baseball team. Why? Because with a win tonight they have a chance at a spot in the Little League World Series. Tonight they face Hinsdale, Illinois but that’s quite a drive so the Astra Theater in Jasper hosted a watch party. Friends of the team, their families and community members came to the theater to see the team on the big screen – literally. There were a ton of cheering fans, I even got a chance to hear some of the chants. But the best part was seeing their friends play.

“Watching the game and seeing if they win or lose, when a good move happens,” says Corde Leinenbach about what he is looking forward to.

“It’s pretty cool because I’ve never seen anyone I knew on TV,” said Dario Solis.

“The turnout is great, just great support for baseball. I think the people of Jasper really appreciate it, we’ve always had great support. Membership in our little league program is high and the little league programs in the area have actually lost, but Jasper has been successful,” said Brad Eckerle, treasurer of Jasper Youth Baseball.

Although the team ultimately lost to Hinsdale, they had an incredible run.
