News from the Jacksonville Public Library:

“The horse” by Willy Vlautin: Al Ward lives on a remote mining property in the Nevada high desert, 50 miles from the nearest town. The gray-haired man in his sixties survives on canned soup, instant coffee, memories of his ex-wife, lost friends and family, and his life as a touring musician. Al suffers from insomnia, anxiety, and chronic lethargy that keep him from returning to the city. He is on the brink of insanity and has no reasons to go on – until a horse shows up at his door, nameless, blind, and utterly helpless. Al hopes the horse will disappear as mysteriously as it appeared. But the animal remains, leaving him wondering if the animal is real or a phantom from his imagination.

“The 12-Hour Movie Expert: Everything You Need to Know About Movies” by Noah Charney and James Charney: The 12-Hour Movie Expert is for anyone who wants to learn more about movies and really enjoy what they watch, but isn’t sure where to start. This book guides its readers through a selection of film masterpieces in a variety of genres, from silent films and westerns to dramas and romantic comedies.

“Ted Lasso” TV series: Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) is an American football coach and leads a British football team. What he lacks in knowledge, he makes up for with optimism… and cookies.

“Ratty’s Big Adventure” by Lara Hawthorne: Ratty has spent his entire life in the crater of a dormant volcano. When he sees the sprawling forest outside, he decides to experience it for himself. Ratty is officially on an adventure, crossing streams and traveling through trees and caves, always hoping for something bigger and better. But Ratty quickly realizes that while adventure can be fun, nothing beats the friends and familiarity of home.
