CULLMAN, Alabama – In April, the Good Samaritan Health Clinic announced plans to build a new clinic along Veterans Drive Southwest to better serve Cullman County residents. On Friday, August 16, the Cullman Lions Club helped the clinic move closer to groundbreaking with a $50,000 donation to Good Samaritan’s fundraising campaign.

The local clinic was founded to help low-income and uninsured individuals with rising health care costs. Since opening Good Samaritan has grown with the needs of its community members and functions as a primary care practice, treating patients with chronic and long-term illnesses and disabilities. Acute and emergency care, dental examinations, mental health services, hearing screenings and other services are also available through the clinic.

In making the announcement in April, board chairman Zach Lee outlined the clinic’s goals in its new venture: long-term mission fulfillment, prevention and wellness, and exceptional care for all uninsured residents. The new clinic will cost the nonprofit an estimated $2.8 million, and groundbreaking is scheduled for 2025. In April, Good Samaritan announced that nearly two-thirds of the funding had been secured.

The donation from the Cullman Lions Club brings the clinic even closer to its goal.

“We are so incredibly grateful to every Lions Club member for all you do for our community. This is the perfect example of how you serve us; I know your club is about service,” said Jolanda Hutson, Good Samaritan Executive Director. “The Good Samaritan Clinic is also about service, and that is a win-win for our community.”

Hutson said about $1 million more needs to be raised to complete the clinic campaign, and noted that the local group’s donation represents a significant contribution to the clinic’s cause.

“Your donation of $50,000 is a great start and a great leap toward our massive goal of raising $1 million in our capital campaign,” she said.

The new building will house a 475-square-meter clinic with four examination rooms, a cardio room, a drive-in medication dispensing area and a larger waiting area that will also be used for patient education programs outside of office hours.
