Colorado Springs City Council President responds to more than 140 noise complaints filed after Ford Amphitheater’s opening weekend

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – Randy Helms told 11 News that he and his team monitored decibel levels in several surrounding neighborhoods during the Ford Amphitheater’s opening weekend. He said they will continue to closely monitor those levels as shows go on.

“I wanted to make sure that our citizens here could feel that the city cares about some of the issues they raised and that we are taking care of it, and we are,” Helms said.

The city said it is investigating 144 complaints from neighbors of the new amphitheater about the noise caused by One Republic’s three shows during opening weekend.

Helms told 11 News that the venue has agreed to keep noise levels below 105 dB. Helms says the city’s Department of Public Safety will continue to monitor noise levels inside the amphitheater.

The amphitheater has been granted a noise permit that allows it to exceed the city’s noise limits, but not the agreed 105 decibels.

“To comply with the agreement, they have to stay below 105 dB in the venue,” Helms said. “It’s their responsibility to get that done and stay below that.”
