Today all of our lives have changed forever. I love you so much, Dad. More than words could ever express. Your strength was absolutely superhuman. You fought to the end and the end was peaceful. That is all I could have hoped for. I love you so much. pic.twitter.com/0mt5blynH3

I spoke with @brutalbobevans about prolific trainer tribes in professional wrestling. However you classify them (Kowalski, Gagne, etc.), Afa Anoai has to be counted among the greats, but his ability to form a fatherly bond with so many was perhaps his greatest gift.

I met “the Islanders” in 1972 in the IWA. From the IWA they went to the WWF in the late 70’s/80’s and helped popularize tag team wrestling with their crazy antics and Captain Lou. Afa, with the dynasty you and Sika created, your name will live on.
My sincere greetings to Lynn, Afa Jr., Samu and family.— George Napolitano (@Starshot9) 16 August 2024
I’m so sad to hear about Afa. He’s been through a lot over the last few years, but he’s fought and fought. Afa is another friend I was close with and made photographing and writing about wrestling so much fun. Continue reading…
