The Florida football team held its 13th fall training camp at the Sanders Practice Fields on Friday.
The Florida Gators are wrapping up their preseason schedule, which ends with three practices next week before the fall semester begins Thursday. Florida’s season opener is Aug. 31 against in-state rival Miami (3:30 p.m., ABC) at The Swamp in 15 days.
The Gators will face the Hurricanes for the first time since they defeated Miami 24-20 in Orlando at the start of the 2019 season.
“We’re not going to sit here and rate one opponent higher than the other,” Florida tight end Arlis Boardingham said. “I think we’re going to have the same mindset every week, which is to try to win. So I think even though it’s our first game and we’re playing in Miami, we’re going to keep that high intensity and mindset.”
Here are three takeaways from Friday’s 15-minute open training session:
Florida football CB Devin Moore in a no-contact jersey
Florida’s projected cornerback Devin Moore did not practice and wore a non-contact jersey. Florida is counting on the 6-foot-3 Moore to stay healthy this season to compete against Jason Marshall Jr.
Defensive back Bryce Thornton wore a non-contact jersey but participated in drills, as did tight end Gavin Hill, who was in a sling before last week’s scrimmage and did not participate. Offensive lineman Bryce Lovett did not participate in drills despite wearing a black jersey.
Good day for Florida football WR Elijhah Badger
It was a good day for Florida Football wide receiver Elijhah Badger, who made some nice catches on the sideline and on some long balls. Badger is still working hard to improve the offense after transferring from Arizona State this spring.
Florida football is working on the launch pad
Florida continued to work on the special teams launch pad to ensure proper transition on punt and kickoff returns and coverage. Proper formation and enough players on the field have been an issue for the Gators heading into the 2023 season.
