Stephen Colbert delivers epic prediction for Cubs left fielder Ian Happ’s home run

In a duel between franchises from the American League and the National League, the Chicago Cubs faced the Toronto Blue Jays, who are considered underdogs for the playoffs in fall 2024.

Cubs left fielder Ian Happ delivered a brilliant performance with a home run, two hits and two runs scored during the game, helping the Cubs build a 5-2 lead by the bottom of the eighth inning. Meanwhile, television personality Stephen Colbert added drama to the Cubs broadcast by sharing a series of odd decisions on Happ’s 473-footer at Wrigley Field.

“Pass the ball,” Colbert said hilariously as Happ rounded the bases and the Cubs took a three-run lead over their northern visitors.

The Blue Jays eventually tied the game at 5:5 and sent it into overtime.

The Cubs entered Friday’s game having won eight of 10 games and lost three in a row. Their home opener coincided with great news about a Chicago baseball legend. Meanwhile, Cubs pitcher Jameson Taillon spoke openly about previously discussed trade deadline rumors.

The Blue Jays started the season with a good feeling after winning their previous series against the Los Angeles Angels.

Happ, who has 20 home runs, a .231 batting average and 67 runs batted in with an OPS (on base plus slugging percentage) of .779 this season, led the Cubs with two hits that day as manager Craig Counsell’s team outscored the Jays in hitting through the first eight innings of the two teams’ meeting.

Craig Counsell and the Cubs will welcome manager AJ Hinch’s Detroit Tigers to town in their next series, which begins Tuesday, August 20, followed by a three-game road trip to Miami to face the Marlins.

Meanwhile, fans went wild as Colbert, from Charleston, South Carolina, hit a hilarious home run.
