Burning questions about the Browns’ 2nd preseason game against the Vikings

Burning questions about the Browns’ 2nd preseason game against the Vikings

Who will shine on offense?

With none of the regular players playing, the Browns’ coaching staff and management should think carefully about who would be best suited to replace their starting five players.

The Browns know the importance of having competent backups. Last season, they were without RT Jack Conklin, LT Jedrick Wills Jr. and T Dawand Jones due to injuries and had to rely on backups for C Ethan Pocic and G Joel Bitonio, who each missed a game due to injury.

Already in 2024, the Browns have lost C Brian Allen to injured reserve and C Luke Wypler, who broke his right ankle last week against the Packers. The team signed C Nick Harris this week, and the former Browns draft pick will likely see action on Saturday.

The Browns are also currently weak at tackle, with Conklin and Wills currently on the active/physically unable to perform list. On Saturday, Hakeem Adeniji, Roy Mbaeteka and Lorenzo Thompson will have important tackle assignments to prove they can effectively protect the quarterback.

Adeniji has experience as an NFL starter, starting 15 of his 43 career games over four seasons. Mbaeteka, who signed with the Browns as part of the International Player Pathway Program, and Thompson, a UDFA rookie, have yet to play in an NFL regular-season game but both were in action last week.

Rookie G Zak Zinter has performed well in camp so far, as the former Michigan Wolverine appears to be well worth the third pick the Browns spent in the 2024 draft. With Bitonio and Teller, one of the league’s best guard duos, advising the young player, Zinter should be set up for success as he looks to make an impact as a backup in his rookie season.
