An Idaho man has been convicted months after admitting to killing four family members who were his neighbors, according to multiple reports.

A judge sentenced Majorjon Kaylor, 32, on Monday to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of the Kellogg family, Idaho, KREM 2, in 2023. Shoshone News Press and CDA press report.

Kaylor pleaded guilty in December to four counts of first-degree murder for shooting Kenneth Guardipee, 65, Kenna Guardipee, 41, and teenagers Devin Smith and Aiken Smith in June 2023, according to CDA Press and The Spokesman Review.

Days before the murder, Kaylor claimed that 18-year-old Devin had indecently exposed himself in front of Kaylor’s wife, Kaylie, and their children, PEOPLE previously reported, citing law enforcement documents.

Kaylor reported the incident to police, who said they responded appropriately to the allegations.

“We responded to the call, investigated it and prepared a report that same day and submitted it to the district attorney’s office for charges,” Police Chief Paul Twidt told the Associated Press at the time. “I stand by what my officer did, and he did everything he could at the time. No one could have predicted something like this.”

Kaylor reportedly felt that police had not adequately investigated and stated that he would take matters into his own hands if necessary, the judge said, as reported The Spokesman Review.

According to his uncle, Devin suffered from a mental illness for which he received support from his family, the outlet reported.

An affidavit previously reviewed by PEOPLE says Kaylor shot Devin multiple times at close range and shot the rest of the family once.

According to the affidavit, Kaylor told authorities he was “freaking out” and “going crazy,” the affidavit said at the time.

A judge reprimanded him on Monday for the brutal murders.

“You took your gun and decided to execute her,” the judge said, according to The Spokesman Review“You knew it was unlawful and you chose to do it. Most verdicts deal with one victim, not four. This goes beyond what we normally see, even in the criminal justice system.”

In a GoFundMe campaign set up for the family after the murders, Kenna’s boyfriend stated that the entire family did not deserve what happened to them, claiming that Aiken paid a high price for an alleged crime that he had “nothing to do with.”

“They were good people. They definitely did not deserve to have their entire family wiped out,” the fundraiser said.

It also said that Kenna was a single mother and the family did not have the opportunity to “tell their side of the story.”

At the verdict on Monday, David Silva, the children’s grandfather, lamented the loss of “three generations” of his family. The Spokesman Review.
